Norwalk boys wrestlers claim three titles at Tom Lepic Invitational; Warrior girls win four brackets at Ogden Silver Tourney

The best news related to opening day at Oaklawn Racing Casino resort came late in October on hospital grounds in Iowa.

Trainer Tim Martin told Horse Racing Nation this week that the bleeding episode suffered by 2-year-old Tyler's Tribe in the Breeders' Cup was the gelding's first instance of EIPH, or exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage. 

While the undefeated, unchallenged 4-year-old colt Flightline may be drawing the majority of the headlines for this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland, there are, as always, a number of other compelling stories hidden amongst this year's contenders.

The Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association is raising money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in honor of Tyler James Juhl, the namesake of undefeated Iowa-bred Breeders' Cup entrant Tyler's Tribe.

No horse has ever cured anyone of leukemia. But Tyler’s Tribe sure helped Tyler James Juhl during his two-year struggle to overcome the disease that threatened his young life. Eight-year-old Tyler is on the verge of being declared cancer-free after he was diagnosed in August 2020. Chemotherapy was delivered through a port in his chest. He also took one chemotherapy pill daily.

Undefeated Iowa standout Tyler’s Tribe was introduced to the Keeneland turf course Saturday morning, working three furlongs in :39.80 with jockey Kylee Jordan aboard.

Tyler's Tribe— an undefeated gelding from Iowa who has his eyes set on Breeders' Cup glory. His story is one to remember.
