MV Confederation won't be be back in business taking vehicles and people between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia until at least July 10, Northumberland Ferries now says.

The MV Confederation is sitting still alongside Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island, and is set to be out of commission for weeks, which is bad news for local tourism operators.

Northumberland Ferries announced Monday MV Confederation ran into mechanical problems that would take it out service for three to four weeks. That has many businesses who rely on traffic from the ferry worried.

A firefighter who was one the first on the scene when the MV Holiday Island ferry caught fire Friday says he is "absolutely amazed" there were no serious injuries.
