Tonight firefighters have their hand filled with this 30acre grass fire. Trevor harris shared this video with us. Homes more threatened but fortunately none burned and t now contained. Good evening im kate larson in for thomas. The heat today reached triple digits in parts of the bay today. The overnight shows as it gets dark tonight that fire danger is not going to go away. Early this morning in san jose a car fire quickly spread to the brush in seattle road and it took crews more than an hour to get a fire that burned with hopes under control. No one was hurt. Nbc 7 news was in san jose where nine cooling stations was set up to give people to stay. The temperature was over 100 degrees around 5 00 this evening. Lots of people had ice cold drinks to stay duel cool and many people were outside and tell us they are use to it. I was burning up in the sun. Walk
Distraught family members holding on to hopes for hours devastated by the outcome after Sheriff Deputies recovered the body of their loved one. I mean its extremely tragic. You have this father who gave up his life for his own son. You know, there as bold as it was, it was a tragedy for the family. Reporter the Sheriffs Office said around 2 00 a family of four adults and eight children were heading out to the pond behind the parkway lakes rv park. I saw a variety of the adults and some kids and they were bringing their blankets. It looked like they were going to go swimming. They looked like they were going out to have a good time. Reporter a good time until one of the children went too far into the water. The father went after his child said to be four or five years old. He got him to safety, but then went under himself. Its real sad, yeah. It is real sad. You know, i am more sad than anybody. But i would never think it would be that dangerous out there. Reporter divers from the Sheri

Just after 6 30 this evening they found his body 15 feet under water 40 yards offshore. They first recovered some of his clothes. As he was going under water he was probably trying to shed some clothing just to reduce some of the pull of the water. Reporter these pictures show you where the family was missing as it looks like a creek that enters into a larger body of water where the rocks are current. The man was found not wearing a life vest. Its unclear if anyone was wearing proper safety equipment. Theres no Public Access to this park with no life guard or park ranger. The fog is trying to form but not happening yet because that air mass is very dry. The fog is flying down the coast and up the coast but just not our coast. We have a 25 do agree 25 degrees spread between antioch and brentwood. There are some 50s, napa at 63 which is a warm overnight low. We will see if this picks up or continues to decrease. Overall this High Pressure system is backing off slightly and the fog will be flying up the coast with everyone on the cooling tomorrow. Some dropping a good 10 to 15 degrees. It is 5 01 am. The south city, though not as severe as it was before on the traffic, southbound 101 we have a fatal accident near the moisture point boulevard on ramp oyster point boulevard. Dozen possible tornadoes from kansas to minnesota overnight, take a look at all the damage there, this is the scene at the johnson Executive Airport in kansas. You can see the storms destroyed hangars, flipping over claims on the runway. Right now thousands are without power, hundreds of homes damaged. So far to tornadoes have been confirmed in missouri. The National Weather service will be out there to assess the damage and see exactly what went on. That same system is headed our way. Lets get right to Veronica Johnson for the latest.
