Seven state football championships have been won between Warren and Rivercrest high schools, and they faced off in one of those finals. (Warren won 38-28 in 2002.) The two programs have combined for eight runner-up finishes and five other semifinal appearances, with Rivercrest getting the last laugh, 55-35 in a 2020 semi.

Only a freshman, Jackson Denton has passed every test he’s faced as Warren’s quarterback so far. Denton threw four touchdown passes, all in the first half. Antonio Jordan caught two of them, and the Lumberjacks advanced to the semifinals of the 4A state high school football playoffs with a 45-7 win over Ozark at Jim Hurley Stadium.

Star City went for an all-or-nothing play and left empty-handed Thursday night against Warren.
