Cascade County has reported 700+ old cases in past month; Montana adds 194 COVID-19 cases Thursday
In the last month, Cascade County has reported over 700 previously unreported COVID-19 cases, most of which were active between the months of November and December 2020.
The process revealed that there were over 700 more cases of COVID-19 than were being reflected in the state s COVID-19 data in late 2020. During November and December of last year Cascade County reported over 4,000 cases of COVID-19 according to data presented by the state at that time.
The reporting of backlogged cases has emerged following data reconciliation processes as the county works with local providers to review all cases to ensure they are reported and reflected on the state dashboard. A spokesperson with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services said that the cases were not reported due to various factors such as staff turnover in the setting involved and data system issues.
Montana counties pausing use of J&J vaccine
By AMY BETH HANSONApril 13, 2021 GMT
HELENA, Mont. (AP) The federally recommended pause in administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination led to the cancellation of clinics at two colleges in Billings on Tuesday while a clinic at the Missoula County Fairgrounds continued with the Moderna vaccine instead, officials said.
About 140 people had signed up for the clinics at Montana State University-Billings and Rocky Mountain College, said Pat Zellar with the Yellowstone County health department.
The single-shot vaccine was offered at the colleges because the semester ends later this month. It was intended to allow students to be fully vaccinated before going home for the summer, Zellar said. Students are still able to get the first dose of a two-dose vaccine at county clinics.

Cascade County health officials are winding down their mass COVID-19 vaccination events. The county is shifting to a more targeted vaccination strategy with hopes of getting more doses in the arms of young people in order to reach herd immunity.
Cascade County Health Officer Trisha Gardner says the county health department’s mass vaccination site will remain open through the end of the month for those who received their first shot there and need the final jab. It’s not that the vaccine is going away or availability is going away. It’s just changing where that’s going to be available.
