The Ministry of Transportation says the temporary closure is needed as stabilization of the rockslide site continues.

A two-hour planned closure of Highway 97 in both directions will occur today (Tuesday, Oct. 24) at Summerland.

The blasting, aimed at reducing further rockslides, is planned between North Beach Road and Callan Road and will see the highway closed from 11 a.m. until  2 p.m. 

Highway 97 north of Summerland will be closed from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday as crews are now moving into the next phase of work, which involves blasting rock.

The closure will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The province has announced a partial reopening date for a highway in B.C.s Okanagan that was closed after a massive rockslide.

The ministry says highway contractors have graded the two forest service roads, installed signage and that flaggers will also be on scene.

A major route connecting the South to the Central Okanagan is still closed following a rockslide near Summerland, B.C. earlier this week.

The closure of a section of Highway 97 north of Summerland, B.C., happened just as travellers are expected to visit the Central and South Okanagan regions during the Labour Day long weekend.

Improvements have been made to two forest service roads in the Okanagan so they can serve as detours after a massive rockslide closed the highway.
