Judge s concern over shambolic lead up to trial

Premium Content Subscriber only The prosecution case against two men accused of attempted murder has been described by the presiding judge as shambolic less than two weeks out from the start of the trial. During a pre-trial discussion at the Lismore District Court on Friday, the two defence teams raised concerns about the case against Aydin Christopher Brown, 31, and Mark Gary Brown, 30. The pair are facing a joint trial on February 8 for the attempted murder of Benn Peterson in July 2017. It is alleged Mr Peterson was bashed and set on fire on Kyogle Rd, Kunghur, near Uki, by the two men.

North Coast men remain in court over drug bust

Surfer Tate Robinson, 22, and Jack Stuart Jones, 21 are each facing numerous drug supply charges. They were among a group charged in a string of raids targeting the alleged supply of cocaine and MDMA in Northern NSW and the Gold Coast last year. Man groped girl, 14, while she was on bike ride with friend

Premium Content Subscriber only A Northern Rivers man who groped a 14-year-old girl while she was on a bike ride with her friend has been sentenced. Keegan Mani Hamilton, 19, had pleaded guilty to intentionally sexually touching a child aged between 10 and 16 years. A further charge of the same nature and another for failing to appear in court were taken into account at his sentencing. Hamilton, who has lived in Tweed Heads and South Murwillumbah in recent years, was stumbling and carrying a cask of wine when he came across the two girls on a busy Tweed Heads road on February 14 last year.

Case against boat harbour murder accused returns to court

Premium Content Subscriber only The case against a man charged with murdering a rough sleeper in Tweed Heads will return to court in March. Kevin James Pettitford, 35, remains in custody in Goulburn charged with murder and attempted murder over an alleged incident on November 21, 2019. Police will allege Mr Pettitford killed Andrew Whyte Murray, who was homeless at the time. They will allege Mr Murray was sleeping at Jack Evans Boat Harbour when he was attacked.
