Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized that women empowerment is not a political issue for the BJP but an integral part of its work culture. Speaking during a debate on the womens reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Shah stated that the passage of the Bill would lead to "women-led development" in the country. The Bill, which proposes 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, was passed with overwhelming support.

The womens reservation bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, which was seen as a major step towards stronger participation of women in politics. However, the exclusion of an OBC sub-quota from the draft legislation was criticized. Women’s Reservation Bill, providing 33 percent reservation to women in Parliament and state assemblies was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Notably, this is the first time in the history that the bill was passed in the lower house. Now, the bill is set to clear Rajya Sabha today.

On the alleged denial of reservation for Muslim women, Asaduddin Owaisi said, "Muslim women account for 7 percent of the national population but their representation in our legislative bodies, including the Parliament, is just 0.7%"

The Bill was passed following division with 454 members voting in favour of the legislation and two against it on the motion for the passage moved by Meghwal. 

Amit Shah also disclosed that 85 Members of Parliament and 29 ministers belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself belonging to this category.
