The Lok Sabha passed the Women Reservation Bill today with only two votes against it.

The Bill was passed with a brute majority, as 454 members voted in favour of the legislation and two against it. The individual clauses of the draft legislation were also voted on. Speaker Om Birla announced the eventual passage of the Bill in the Lower House.

New Delhi/IBNS: The historic bill seeking reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies will face a test in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, a day after it was almost unanimously passed in Lok Sabha.

Rajya Sabha Passes Womens Reservation Bill: The motion was adopted in the House with 215 MPs voting in favour and none against and without any abstention.

The bill was passed after a day-long debate in which several leaders across party lines put forth their views. The Congress was represented by its Parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi who urged the government to look into OBC and SC quota for women in the bill.
