Metas Threads was a social media app that was launched in July 2023 as a rival to Twitter. The app was designed to be a more personal and intimate way for users to connect with their friends and family.

Threads does not yet support direct messaging, hashtags or keyword searches, which limits its appeal to advertisers and its utility as a place for following real-time events like users frequently do on Twitter.

Threads, although the most successful one, is not the only Twitter-like app on the market. Since it has not attempted to confuse customers or tried to make them believe that they are using Twitter, the case against the app is not very strong

The rivalry between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has intensified since the launch of Twitters rival app Threads, with Musk threatening to sue Zuckerberg over alleged misappropriation of trade secrets. The launch of Metas Threads app, marketed as a Twitter killer, has further fueled tensions.

Elon Musk shared with users that Twitter has lost roughly half of its advertising revenue since he bought the social media platform for $44 billion last October.

Threads has now adopted rate limiting to combat spam but this move has led to Musk taking a jab at Threads, suggesting that they are copying Twitter.

Completing the top five markets for Threads are Mexico which accounts for 8 per cent of downloads, and Japan with 5 per cent, the report said.
