Cardinals battle Crown College to split (4/7/2021)
The Saint Mary’s University (SMU) baseball team scored 20 runs in its non-conference doubleheader against Crown College last week including at least one run in 11 of the 13 innings.
Saint Mary’s scored in every inning in the opener, rolling to a 10-4 victory.
And in the nightcap, the Cardinals put together a second straight 10-run performance, only to have Crown propelled by a seven-run second inning hold off a wild SMU comeback attempt to earn the split with a 12-10 victory.
The Cardinals were nothing if not consistent in the opener, scoring in all six innings in which they batted including single runs in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings, while plating two runs in the second, and breaking the game open with a four-run sixth.

In their first home game in 683 days, Saint Mary’s University’s Ryan Wolfe turned in a pitching masterpiece.
And Taylor Anderson made sure the senior right-hander was rewarded for his efforts.
Anderson delivered a one-out, walk-off double preserving Wolfe’s four-hit, complete-game gem, and lifting the Cardinals to a 2-1, non-conference win over Luther College.
The Cardinals didn’t get another complete-game pitching performance in the nightcap but they definitely got another pitching Picasso, as Jonathan Cieminski, Jacob Johnson, and Kodey Kiel combined for a two-hitter, as Saint Mary’s completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory.
Opposition groups are planning litigation.
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors held the 10-hour hearing on March 4, ultimately going forward with the controversial project presented by applicant Intersect Power. The solar development, proposed for agricultural land in North Livermore along Cayetano Creek, is set to cover 350 acres with solar panels and battery storage.
The hearing followed the Board of Zoning Adjustmentsâ (BZA) decision in November to recommend approval of the project. Three project opponents â Save North Livermore Valley (SNLV), Friends of Livermore, and Friends of Open Space and Vineyards â filed appeals. The fourth to appeal was applicant Intersect Power itself, taking issue with the BZAâs conditional-use permit (CUP) requirements. The supervisors denied all four appeals.

If Saint Mary’s University baseball coach had any concern what a year lay-off would do to his squad, the Cardinals promptly put those fears to rest in their very first at-bat.
The Cardinals erupted for six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in cruising to an 8-2 win over St. Scholastica in the first game of their non-conference doubleheader at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Saint Mary’s put up another six-run first in the nightcap, but the Saints would rally, grabbing 9-8 lead heading into the sixth inning when the game was halted due to time limit. The game will be completed on another day, if schedules allow.
