Type 003 News Today

The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) aircraft carrier Type 002 Shandong transited the Taiwan Strait on Monday and, according to Taiwanese officials, had remained on the Chinese side of the median line – the unofficial nautical barrier between the mainland and the self-ruling island.

China's first supercarrier will be a new factor in the Indo-Pacific as the US will have a comparable counterpart.

Type 003 uses a catapult launch, which experts believe is an electromagnetic-type system similar to one developed by the US Navy.

Type 003 represents a major technological leap for China and will significantly improve the PLAN's capabilities.

The dry dock has been flooded so the vessel can be floated, and banners with political slogans and flags can be seen on the warship.

China already has the world's largest navy, and the new carrier is part of a broader effort to modernize the Chinese military.

Military insider says it will take place on Friday and the warship ‘needs to go into sea trials as soon as possible’.

China is building its new Type 003, a match for the new Ford-class supercarriers in addition to the Shandong and Liaoning. It will exceed the capabilities of the previous two and bring the PLAN to a higher level.

China will reveal new progress on its next-generation aircraft carrier-based fighter jet this year, the maker of the aircraft said at the ongoing Airshow China 2021.
