People living in Pond Inlet, Nunavut voiced their concerns on the final day of hearings regarding the proposed Mary River expansion project. Now, the review board will draft a recommendation that'll inform a final decision by Canada's minister of northern affairs.

In separate statements, Kaujak Komangapik and Jayko Allooloo said there are fewer narwhals and caribou to be found. Meanwhile, the company promises more environmental controls, more involvement for Inuit and cash for the community.

Community roundtables get underway Tuesday at the Nunavut Impact Review Board's public hearings into the Mary River Mine's expansion. The company says the mine could be shuttered if a new project certificate is refused.
