Temperatures are expected to briefly jump next week, but one weather expert has revealed when Britons should expect longer-lasting summer warmth to reach the UK.

Parts of Britain look set for highs of 20C in a few days time as milder temperatures sweep across the country, according to the latest weather maps.

Highs of 21C are expected this weekend as temperatures enter summer levels for the first time in 2024.

"As we go through the week, the high pressure tends to drift further eastwards; we could waft up some warmer air - some significantly warmer air - by the time we get to Friday and in to Saturday," Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said. In Belfast and Glasgow, Met Office has forecasted temperatures of 21C and 19C respectively. The latest forecast comes month after the Met Office provisionally called September the UKs joint warmest on record.
