New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) The Delhi Police told a court here Tuesday that former JNU student Umar Khalid amplified a false narrative in his favour through social media, completing its arguments against his bail plea in the 2020 Delhi riots case.

New Delhi, Jan 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned till January 24 the hearing on the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid in a case lodged under anti-terror law UAPA over his alleged involvement in the conspiracy behind the northeast Delhi riots of February 2020.

A doctorate in Adivasi history from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Umar Khalid has been an active comrade student on campus.

The activist has been in prison for nearly three years, awaiting trial.

The activist is a different person today. But he looks at what he is being subjected to as symptomatic of the larger progressing rot in our society.

For the justice system today, the call for revolution and threats of violence can mean different things, depending who said it.

Chances are he would talk about the many 'parikshas' the marginalised in India have to fight daily, and the 'parikshas' of conscience each of us face when we see the persecution of those who do not belong to the majority faith.

Umar Khalid is now out of quarantine.
