The Central Board of Direct Taxes has accused pharma company manufacturing popular Dolo-650 mg tablets of distributing Rs 1,000 crore freebies to doctors for prescribing the anti-inflammatory, fever-reducer drug to patients.

A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna was informed that makers of Dolo-650 mg tablet had invested Rs 1,000 crore in freebies to have its anti-fever drug prescribed to patients.

The NGO said that to ensure a higher profit margin, the company distributed freebies to doctors to prescribe the Dolo drug of dosage 650mg capacity.

A PIL filed by the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India, stated that DOLO had invested 1,000 crores in freebies to have its anti-fever drug prescribed to patients.

Dolo tablet firm freebies: Parikh added that it is an irrational dose combination and said that he would like to bring more such facts to the knowledge of the court after a response is filed by the Centre.
