The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed changes to the mobile number portability (MNP) rules to prevent SIM-swap fraud. Under the new regulations, telecom operators will need to check if a porting request is coming from a number that has undergone a SIM swap or replacement in the previous 10 days. If so, the unique porting code will not be allocated, preventing the port-out/in process.

New Mobile Number Portability Rules From Today: All You Need To Know

Beginning today, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented the revised mobile number portability (MNP) rules. The process which allows mobile subscribers to switch operators while retaining their mobile numbers. The new rules suggest a number must be ported within 3-5 working days, which earlier was extended to 15 days.
