A wedding in Uttar Pradesh ended in a tragedy for a family after a conflict over the wedding gift led to a brutal murder.

A 62-year-old man was bludgeoned to death allegedly by his cousin on suspicion of doing occult practice to kill him, police said on Sunday.

Although the police have refuted the claims, the family members of the man, identified as Asaram, and residents of his village, protested with his body and blocked the Lakhimpur-Maigalganj highway on Saturday morning.

A murder accused, out on bail, was shot dead on a busy road in UP's Sultanpur district. The incident happened on April 7. The victim, Vijay Narayan Singh, was jailed for the murder of a government doctor in September 2024.

A court convicted a man of killing his parents and sentenced him to death here, a lawyer said. Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyanendra Tripathi also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the man.

A man in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and one-year-old daughter after an argument over his extramarital affair.

According to the police, the case dates back to April 12 this year, when the body of a woman was found. Police found that a name was written on her hand.

Police arrested the woman’s father who reached the station with the spade used in the crime; probing the role of other family members.

Azam Khan, his son Abdullah Azam Khan, brother Shareef Ahmed and nephew Bilal Khan were acquitted in the case lodged by his neighbour in 2019.
