The recent detention of a Chinese national in Pakistan has sent shockwaves through the international community. Tian, in charge of heavy machinery, for China Gezhouba Group Company at the World Bank-financed, Dasu hydropower project in the Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was detained by police late on April 16, from a residential camp for Chinese workers near Dasu, about 350km north of Islamabad, "to avert a serious situation".

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended the Upper Sharia court in Kano for sentencing a cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru-kabara to death for committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Nasiru-Kabara was charged with four counts bordering on blasphemy by the Kano State government. Delivering judgment on Thursday, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, the presiding kadi (judge) sentenced the cleric to death by hanging over blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
