Creek, Muskogean-speaking North American Indians who originally occupied a huge expanse of the flatlands of what are now the states of Georgia and Alabama. There were two divisions of Creeks: the Muskogee, who were known as the Upper Creeks, and the Hitchiti and Alabama, who were known as the Lower Creeks.
