Yukon RCMP are looking for witnesses of a fatal hit-and-run that took place over the weekend on the Alaska Highway near Watson Lake.

In a news release Sunday, police said they received a report of the incident just after midnight Saturday. The highway was closed while officers and medical personnel attended the scene, and reopened Saturday afternoon.

Yukon RCMP are investigating a fatal hit and run collision that killed a 27-year-old man approximately two kilometres west of the Town of Watson Lake.

By Sunday night, RCMP had been called and cordoned off the area to investigate. With the help of the Canadian military, the RCMP determined the object wasn't an undetonated explosive at all. It's a downrigger weight, used for fishing.
