City of Yellowknife's fire chief, Nelson Johnson, said in the release it is due to 'very dry conditions,' and no rain in the forecast. There is also an expected increase in lightning later this week.

There's relief among community members in Wrigley, N.W.T. after rain dampened a nearby wildfire threatening the community.

The wildfire is about six kilometres north of the Willowlake River and 40 kilometres south of Wrigley and has shut down Highway 1 between kilometre markers 553 and 690.
