Urea Export: The issue has raised concern about a repeat of a supply crunch in 2021 when Chinas government effectively halted exports of urea - a type of nitrogen used as fertiliser in agriculture as well as to curb diesel and industrial emissions.

The rival parties called Monday for the government to come up with countermeasures against Beijings recent halt in urea exports to Korea, voicing concerns it could lead to another urea crisis.

Sri Lankas High Commissioner to India, Milinda Moragoda, held a meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Fertilizers of India, Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, where they discussed ways to ensure an uninterrupted supply of chemical fertilizers to Sri Lanka.
