On October 13, 2021 the Additional Sessions Court, Kollam, had found Suraj guilty of murder in this unique case of murder by throwing a starving cobra on to his sleeping wife to induce death by snakebite.

By not awarding the death sentence to the convict in the case, the trial court firmly resisted pressures from civil society.

A unique experiment was conducted where a live cobra was placed in a room similar to the scene of crime and induced to bite a dummy the size of the victim.

This is the first case anywhere in the entire country where a man has been found guilty of murder by using a snake.

Uthra, a differently abled woman, was allegedly killed by her husband Sooraj, who got her bitten by a venomous snake, an Indian Cobra.
