The rain fell softly outside the Neighborhood Congregational Church on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, as dozens of Barbara Metzger's family and friends gathered to pay tribute to the longtime Laguna Beach advocate and editor, who died on Dec. 10, 2023 at the age of 90. 

Barbara Metzger’s recent passing has left a hole in the hearts of many.Barbara loved Laguna and showed it by giving her time and energy to help maintain its village atmosphere. She served on the Heritage Committee, Design Review Board and the Planning Commission.

We all have regrets in life, but I have a lingering one related to my service on the city council in the early 1990s.

On the evening of May 15, two other members of the Laguna chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby joined me in attending the meeting of our city’s Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC), held at the Senior Center. I served on that committee back in 2006-2008 when it, with the help of the citizenry, wrote the current Climate Protection Action Plan.
