This Veterans Day, UC Merced has another way to thank former military members for their service.

March 9, 1959 - March 9, 2023 On March 9, 2023, on a quiet, snowy evening, David William Hird laid to rest. Coincidentally or by design, David passed away on his 64th birthday. Perhaps David’s biggest triumph throughout his 64 years was that he endured the mental and physical ailments that plagued him. In spite of it all, or because of it, David embodied humility, brilliance, gentleness, and mystery. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, and brother.

The Veterans Upward Bound Program provides support and academic services to eligible veterans. The purpose of the program is to assist veterans in reaching their academic goals.

KU Center for Educational Opportunity Programs continues long legacy serving Kansans who are first-generation and low-income

The program will provide assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction, among other things.

On Monday evening, Del Mar College recognized 66 veterans who completed the Veterans Upward Bound Program.

This is a Trio grant funded program that services first generation veterans that have not been in school in five or more years or that have
never attended school.
