The Lyon County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution stating its opposition to Nevadas new gun background check law.

One of the first orders of business for the Lyon County Commission at last weeks board meeting held in Dayton on Jan. 20 was a vote on a resolution honoring Legacy Airbase, Dream Flights.

The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to pass a proclamation naming Lyon County a “Constitutional County,” with a portion of the proposed language including Sheriff Frank Hunewill and his association with a “Constitutional Sheriffs” organization removed at the request of the sheriff.

Lyon County became the latest rural county to declare an economic emergency and decline to enforce the governor’s COVID-19 directives on the basis that they hurt businesses. The county of about 58,000 people joins the rural resistance along with White Pine, Elko and Eureka counties, which are less populous.

The Board of Lyon County Commissioners began the new year Thursday by changing the leadership of the County Commission. Commissioner Ken Gray, serving his second term, was voted as the Board Chairman for 2022. Commissioner Vida Keller, having served as Board Chair for the past two years was voted as the Vice-Chair.
