Monterey and Santa Cruz County Workforce Boards came together to host a job fair in the community, Wednesday.

“I am deeply saddened to report that Senior Officer Vidal Lopez passed away peacefully today surrounded by his family,” Chief Troy Finner said.

Officer Lopez was a 20-year veteran of the force who worked in the Technology Services department.

Investigators are trying to figure out how the tragedy happened. BNSF says preliminarily it appears the RR crossing gates and lights were working properly.

Houston news: An off-duty police officer was involved in a crash with a train on Fulton Street in north Houston.

Chief Troy Finner confirmed in a press conference that Vidal Lopez, 42, a senior police officer with HPD was in his personal vehicle when he was involved in a train crash and is "fighting for his life."
