The civic body has already started the work for a medical college and is planning a separate hospital for the college, said Kumar, adding that PMC will also work for providing basic facilities such as water, roads, and drainage for the newly included 34 villages under the jurisdiction of PMC.

With a budget going up by nearly Rs1,000 crores, water has got the maximum share of Rs1321 crores followed by roads with Rs800 crores.

The environmental activists in the city have been opposing this project since it was first proposed in 1987.
