Chandrayaan-3 again landed on the Moon on command, which was not planned. The ‘hop experiment’ indicates new possible opportunities for future moon missions.

After a successful execution of Chandrayaan-3 mission, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is poised to launch Aditya-L1, Indias next space mission focused on studying the Sun, in September 2023. It aims to gain insights into solar dynamics, coronal heating, and space weather by placing a spacecraft in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system.

The Pragyan rover, designed for this mission, showcases Indias national emblem, the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath, and the iconic ISRO logo. These imprints are embedded on the lunar terrain by the rovers rear wheels, which could leave a symbol of Indias presence on the Moon’s South Pole for a long time to come.

Numerous factors contribute to the absence of attempts to land on the Moons South Pole. From grappling with difficulties during the landing process to encountering the frozen conditions of the surface, the obstacles involved in reaching the pole are unparalleled.

With this milestone, India proudly becomes the first nation to accomplish the remarkable feat of landing a spacecraft on the Lunar South Pole. Chandrayaan-3 mission highlights Indias technological advancement in space exploration, drawing global attention for its ambitious and pioneering spirit.

The pivotal decision regarding Chandrayaan-3s landing on August 23 rests on the lander modules health and lunar conditions, said an ISRO scientist. Nilesh M Desai, Director of Space Applications Centre-ISRO, Ahmedabad has explained the reason behind the possible shift of the landing date.

As of August 19, Chandrayaan's Vikram lander module is 157 km away from the Moon. On the other hand, Luna-25 is planning to make a landing on August 21 after successfully entering the lunar orbit around August 16.
