The American writer, who won a Nobel Prize in 2020, wrote with cool clarity and often puckish wit.

In a career spanning more than 60 years, Gluck forged a narrative of trauma, disillusion, stasis and longing, spelled by moments of ecstasy and contentment.

Glück, who was regarded as one of America’s greatest writers by the time she arrived at Yale, in 2004, was a dedicated teacher and mentor to students.
