INDIA: Wabtec Corp officially opened a US$18m rail component and subsystem manufacturing campus at Rohtak northwest of New Delhi in Haryana on May 20.

Manufacturing spare parts for the rail industry is a complex task, as many ageing components are no longer available on the market, requiring bespoke manufacturing processes. This can result in significant costs, idle trains and extended delivery times. Nikon SLM Solutions is able to address this issue with its additive manufacturing technology.

“I do not think global supply chain has stabilized. There was COVID well before the geopolitical tensions, but we are living in a world that is more unpredictable and volatile,” Schweitzer told ET in response to a question on the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, adding that supply chains are not yet reliable.

Wabtec's site in Avellino, Italy has received International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) Gold recognition for quality performance at its highest level of excellence, the Gold level. The IRIS Gold is the highest level of excellence, which only two other rail industry sites have achieved.
