Police in Alabama say a “suspicious” person has been shot and killed outside Walnut Park Elementary in Gadsden after attempting to gain entry to the building.

A "suspicious" man attempting enter Walnut Park Elementary in Gadsden was killed after engaging in a clash with responding law enforcement.

Alabama officials have not disclosed whether the man had a weapon or why he was trying to enter the elementary school.

A responding school resource officer reportedly got into a physical altercation with a "potential intruder" and ultimately shot the suspect dead.

The suspicious man reportedly arrived at Walnut Park Elementary around 9.30am and had attempted to get inside vehicles and buildings.
