Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record Roswell police, aided by the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police, took a man into custody Saturday night after he reportedly led police on a high-speed pursuit during which he nearly collided with another vehicle. Henry Walton (Submitted Photo) Henry Walton, 48, of Roswell was detained by law enforcement shortly after 9:02 p.m. at an East Pine Lodge Road residence, according to documents filed Monday in Chaves County Magistrate Court. Walton faces charges including aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. Court documents state a Roswell police officer encountered Walton at 8:31 p.m. Saturday when the officer, heading north on Atkinson Avenue, reportedly witnessed a white vehicle traveling southbound at 68 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer turned around, he observed the white vehicle fail to yield for a stop sign at the intersection of Atkinson Avenue

Edmund Montes (Submitted Photo) Edmund Montes, 37, of Roswell, and Delfida Marie Pineda, also known as Marie Pineda, 43, of Roswell, were served with arrest warrants returned to Chaves County Magistrate Court Monday, according to electronic court records. Montes faces one count each of kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; aggravated assault of a household member; battery of a household member and bribery of a witness. Pineda is charged with kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; and battery.

YOUNGSTOWN A city man, 22, was in stable condition over the weekend at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital despite being shot in the back of the head. The shooting happened at 7:47 p.m. on Market Street between Lucius and Auburndale avenues, the victim told police. A woman told police the victim called her about 7:27 p.m. and told her to pick him up at Uptown Beverage, 2935 Market St., because he had been shot. She picked him up and took him to her home in the city. He told her he was about to cross the street and felt a sharp pain in the back of his head. He said he felt dizzy and ran toward a local business. He said he didn’t know who shot him.
