THE DALLES — On March 9, Wasco County and The Dalles Little League (TDLL) came together to clean up Kramer Field in anticipation of this year’s field season.

Sixteen-year-old Mark Connors says he was the target of racist slurs at a tournament on the island late last year.

A Grade 4 class in South Rustico, P.E.I., shared letters of support with Mark Connors last week, and got to meet the 16-year-old goalie in a video meeting. 

'This is not an isolated incident,' writes Vanessa C. Wachuku. 'How many times must a Black child experience such violence before adults say enough is enough? How many times must children be subjected to violence based on their race before changes are made?'

Mark Connors, a Black 16-year-old goaltender with the Halifax Hawks U18 AA team who was called the N-word on the ice three years ago, says he has again been subjected to racial slurs, this time during a recent tournament in Charlottetown.
