City and county leaders celebrated achievements from the past year and shared details about future projects during the annual State of the Community.

Wayne County commissioners will next meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wayne County Administration Building Upper-Level Meeting Room.

Geoff Hulse was recognized for his outstanding service to Wayne County and its residents with the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce’s Cornerstone Award.

The Friends of the Wayne County Library has created a gift basket drawing to encourage members to renew and new members to join during February.

The city of Goldsboro will celebrate a landmark anniversary this weekend as it reaches its 175th birthday.

Roughly 100 gather in Rittman to celebrate the future $5.9 million Wayne County Public Library branch expected to open next summer.

"We are hoping to move into the new building in mid- to late-June of 2023 and be open to the public soon afterwards," said Director Jennifer Shatzer.

There is more than just books at the Wayne County Library, including Library of Things, a collection of gadgets, tools, games, and other equipment.
