National Gun Violence Awareness Day takes place each year on June 7 to honor those who have lost their lives to a senseless act and show support for survivors.

ROCKFORD — Ten years after the fatal shooting of his son, Wayne Fricks Sr. says he’s returning to Rockford healed and ready to address the city’s violence and help the formerly incarcerated. Fricks Sr. is the former Rockford CeaseFire executive director and a former Gangster Disciple-turned-minister. He assists the pastor of No Cross No Crown Fellowship Church in Rockford.
