A pod of white-beaked dolphins has been stranded by sea ice in a narrow bit of water off Newfoundland, Canada. Dildo Cove is the name of their ice prison.

Seven dolphins are stuck in an ice-free area the size of a swimming pool just outside Dildo, N.L., on Thursday, as fisheries officials and volunteers attempt to relocate the pod.

"This has happened many times before here when ice invades us from the north," Wayne Ledwell of Whale Release and Strandings told Newsweek.

Arkadiy Skorobogatov left his life on the Azov Sea in Ukraine for the safety of Newfoundland and Labrador. Now, he's trying to get his foot in the fishery here.

A local whale release and rescue group says a quick response from residents in Heart's Delight-Islington saved the lives of over a dozen trapped dolphins, but fear ice conditions could create more problems down the line.
