A new designation of 305,000 hectares of marine waters off the coast of Wexford as a Special Protection Area (SPA) will compliment several other east coast SPAs in Wicklow, including Wicklow Head and the Murrough.

Five Wicklow animal welfare charities are to benefit from a share of €340,775 in funding, following commitments made by the Green Party before entering Government to increase the level of funding for such organisations. It comes as the Department of Agriculture on Thursday, December 7, announced record funding of €6m to 101 animal welfare charities across the country.
