The Pure environmental initiative has reached a milestone in combating illegal dumping in the Wicklow Mountains having marked the collection of over 4,000 tonnes of rubbish and litter since its formation in 2006.

Ecotrail Wicklow has again partnered with the Wicklow/Dublin uplands environmental initiative, Pure, to continue its commitment to minimise environmental impacts of the popular trail running festival.

The founder of Bray’s Coastcare, Séamus Connor, who has been organising monthly clean-ups of the town’s coast, as well as Bray Head and other areas in the vicinity for the last 16 years, has been selected by Aontú to represent the party in County Wicklow.

The topic of dog fouling is a huge issue in the west of the county, according to local councillors. The issue was raised during the February meeting of Baltinglass Municipal District. Garvan Hickey, district adminitrator, told members that letters had been received about the issue of dog fouling, particularly in the Blessington area.
