The year 2023 seemed unimaginably far away when my second-grade teacher remarked that it would be the year of our high school graduation. Echoes of “That’s so long from now!” and “I can’t wait until then!” filled the classroom of naïve elementary-schoolers.

“It’s kind of considered the Minnesota Tony Awards for teenagers,” said Mayo High School student Will Laudon.

And the more I think about it, my father is exactly the person I want to turn into.

Whenever I look back on past memories of school, I fondly remember laughs at the lunch table and not-so-fondly remember the dreaded mile run in gym class.
