The storm raged for days, dumping four feet of snow and packing winds as high as 70 miles per hour, an unusually catastrophic combination.

Storm-related deaths include 12 in Erie County, ranging in age from 26 to 93 years old, and another in Niagara County, where a man was overcome by carbon monoxide.
