October is set to be a month of celebration and community engagement at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 6th and Chestnut streets, Lebanon.

After almost a year of meetings and postponements, the county approved 252 new apartments in Arden, but not a height variance developers sought.

The proposal was met with opposition by many residents who were against rezoning the area from mostly single-family use to multi-family use.

Gastonia’s Planning Board rejected a rezoning request that would have allowed a developer to build a 194-unit apartment complex.

Decisions on two apartment projects totaling 480 units were postponed again by the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Feb. 9.

A decision for a 252-unit apartment complex in Arden seeking approval for taller buildings and recreational amenities has been continued to Feb. 9.
