Alpha Phi Alpha believes other organizations will follow its lead and move their major events from Florida to boycott the state's racist laws.

The oldest historically Black collegiate fraternity in the U.S. said it is relocating a planned convention in two years from Florida because of what it described as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration’s “harmful, racist and insensitive” policies toward African-Americans.

The Sunshine State will lose out on roughly $4.6 million in economic activity, Alpha Phi Alpha's president said.

 

The decision comes as a response to what the fraternity describes as “harmful, racist, and insensitive” policies implemented by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration towards African Americans.
