Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. honored a Westborough police officer on Tuesday who saved a woman by fatally shooting her husband as he attacked her last year.
Sgt. Jon Kalagher was presented with the District Attorney’s Team Excellence and Merit - TEAM - Award, which recognizes outstanding service by those in public safety. Early created the TEAM Award in 2019 to recognize public safety employees who go above and beyond the call of duty.
Kalagher responded to a domestic violence call in November of 2019 where police said a man stabbed his wife several times inside their Windsor Ridge Drive apartment in Westborough. The wife, authorities said, fled to a neighboring apartment where residents called 911. The man followed her and continued to attack her outside the apartment, police said.
