(The Center Square) - Gov. Kevin Stitt said a new workforce development commission would help grow and stabilize the states labor pool.

Gov. Kevin Stitt issued an executive order on Tuesday restructuring his Cabinet to create a new secretary of workforce development position and secretary of operations and government position.

With the state governments focus on attracting high-tech industries to Oklahoma, highly trained people will be needed to fill those jobs.

State Senate leaders hope to create a new entity that would give the private sector more power to develop its future workforce.

The State Chamber of Oklahoma has identified goals for the 2023 legislative session that focus on workforce and talent development and tax competitiveness.

The plan is to begin with creation of a Workforce Transformation Task Force, which will lead to the appointment of a workforce leader to oversee efforts.
