At long last, the Zilker Eagle is back on track. The miniature train is once again offering rides in Zilker Park for the first time in almost five years.

A May 2019 storm put the Zilker Zephyr, established in April 1961, out of commission in the Texas capital. Now the Zilker Eagle is picking up the torch.

Austin said goodbye to the Zilker Zephyr in 2020. Now, more than four years later, the Zilker Eagle mini train is finally set to open to the public.

The Austin Parks Foundation said if upcoming testing goes according to plan, a date will be set to open the train to the public soon.

The bridge over Barton Creek on Barton Springs Road will be replaced in the coming years after the Austin City Council approved a $9 billion contract to design a new bridge.

The Barton Springs Road Bridge was first built in 1925 and later expanded in 1946.

It's been nearly five years since the departure of the "Zilker Zephyr" train at Zilker Park, and enthusiasts will have to wait a little while longer for its return.
