The Salt Fire east of Lake Shasta in the Sacramento River Canyon north of Redding exploded in size Thursday as the flames ravaged at least one Lakehead neighborhood. On Friday afternoon, forest officials said the Salt Fire continues to advance north, adding that crews have made good progress in the Lakehead area. As of Friday morning, the fire was burning 5,043 acres, with 5% containment.
