CANTON Spoon River College nursing students experienced firsthand the important role of public health nursing when they partnered with the Fulton County Health Department at a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Canton Feb. 6, the first of four vaccine clinics the students will assist with.
“Our students not only gained experience, it was an opportunity for them to give back to their community,” said SRC nursing educator Ashley Frederick. “Our nursing program provides many clinical experiences for students including hospital, long-term, and mental health.”
Registration for the Fall 2021 nursing program is now open. For more information about the program, visit www.src.edu or call 309-647-4645.

CANTON As the state of Illinois moves into Phase 1b of the Mass Vaccination Plan, the Fulton County Health Department and Graham Hospital will host Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics for individuals who qualify under Phase 1B. Individuals included in Phase 1B are frontline essential workers and residents aged 65 and over. The frontline essential workers designation includes many residents who carry a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their work duties, often because they are unable to work from home, and/or they must work closely to others without being able to socially distance. This includes first responders, education, food and agriculture, manufacturing, corrections workers and inmates, USPS workers, public transit workers, grocery store workers and staff at shelters and day cares.

The Fulton County Health Department is busy distributing its first 200 doses of Moderna s COVID-19 vaccine after a shipment arrived earlier this week.
The health department said 85 doses were administered this week after the first vaccines arrived on Monday.
“The Health Department is bringing in every resource we can to help in this fight and we’ve also brought in some of our community partners to help expedite the vaccine distribution,” Katie Lynn, administrator of the Fulton County Health Department, said in a press release.
Lynn said the county reported 869 cases, 17 deaths, and a 6.9% positivity rate in December. Half of the county s total reported deaths, and a third of its total reported cases, happened last month alone.
