Annual dredging underway at Port Solent March 3, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic ML (UK) Dredging Ltd has begun routine maintenance dredging of the Port Solent Approaches. According to the Port Solent Marina, the dredging started on Monday, 1st March 2021 within the lock entrance and approach channel of the marina. The works are anticipated to last for three weeks, dependant on the weather and will start within the lock entrance and work upwards to the approach channel. For the project, the company is using the backhoe dredger “Witton II” and the self-propelled barge “Split Two”. Last year, ML Dredging removed over 6000m3 of silt and mud from the channel.

According to the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth, the start of this routine maintenance dredging project is set for the 1 March 2021. The works will be conducted 24 hours a day with completion due by late March 2021. For the project, the company will bring in one of their backhoe dredgers, the “Witton II” or “Boxer”. Once in place, the dredger will display the appropriate signals from the COLREGS when conducting their operations, reported the Harbour Master.

Plans for a ‘modern’ new affordable housing development on the site of two of Oldham’s run-down tower blocks have been revealed. Housing association First Choice Homes Oldham has applied to the council to build 88 homes on land at the ‘gateway’ to the town, off Vale Drive. The new estate, which would be a mix of apartments and houses, would take the place of 1960s tower blocks Crossbank House and Summervale House. Residents of more than 240 properties of the 15-storey two blocks were moved out by the end of April last year, and they have since been standing empty.
